About My Fused Dichroic Glass Jewelry Work
I design and hand craft each piece of my fused dichroic glass jewelry. Dichroic glass has been used by companies in a variety of applications- General Motors uses it to increase the intensity of headlights.
The glass is unique because it transmits one color and reflects a different color. When viewed from different angles, a third color can be seen. The dichroic coating is made from melted quartz and metal oxides; the process takes place in a vacuum chamber. This procedure makes it the most expensive glass in the world.
All of my jewelry is individually made. Glass combinations are carefully selected and are created by fusing several layers of glass together at about 1500 degrees. Pieces are often kiln fired multiple times to get the desired effect.
